About us

Troy Desmond Smith has more than twenty years of experience working in the fields of human services and education. A professional speaker and facilitator since 1993, Troy has provided outstanding services for nonprofit and profit organizations. Troy’s earlier background in the field of human services focused on direct care work with organizations such as Serving People In Need; Bay Cove Human Services; and Project Cope in Lynn, where he served as the first male group facilitator of the Woman's Aftercare Program. As a tenured Professor of Human Services at North Shore Community College, Troy has served the college since 1992. Troy received the 2009 National Institute for Staff & Organizational Development Teaching Excellence Award at the International Conference held in Austin, Texas. He has held appointments as adjunct professor in community building and social change, interdisciplinary studies, and the social sciences at the University of Massachusetts, the Springfield College School of Human Services, and Cambridge College. Troy holds a Masters in Educational Administration, Planning, and Social Policy from Harvard University, and a Masters in Sociology from the University of Michigan.

Troy founded Positive Vision in 1993 with the mission of building community and facilitating personal empowerment. Fostering group collaboration and improving organizational productivity, Positive Vision provides clients with customized services of the highest quality. Positive Vision is proud of its diverse clientele, and has been highly effective in helping non-profit, community-based, and educational organizations to actualize their collective potential with a dynamic strength-based approach. The company also provides innovative tailored trainings for corporate entities. A member of Toastmasters International, the world’s largest non-profit educational organization devoted to public speaking skills and leadership development, Troy brings a broad range of communication and leadership experience to his audiences and clients. He was a national award winner and a featured showcase speaker at the Region VII Conference in Falls Church, Virginia in 2005. Troy also served as President of the Leading Speakers Club in Saugus, MA.
